Costa Coffee was named the nation’s favourite coffee shop by research consultancy company Allegra Strategies in 2020. This year, the popular coffee chain celebrates 50 years since opening its first ever shop in 1971 in London.
To mark its fiftieth birthday, the coffee shop chain is offering customers a free Costa coffee this week.
The offer is valid from Tuesday, March 30, until Thursday, April 1.
Customers can choose any hot drink of their choice.
Or, if you don’t fancy a drink, you can opt for a sweet treat instead, such as a Costa brownie or muffin.
All customers need to do to claim the deal is download the Costa Coffee app on their phone, which is available for free on the Google Play store or Apple app store.
The promotion is only valid for new and existing customers who have registered with the app.
When you register, Costa Coffee will immediately give you £1 worth of points to spend at a coffee shop or bar.
The new deal, valid this week only, will give you 300 points once you have registered.

This is equivalent to £3, which can then be spent on any hot drink or snack of your choice.
However, app users must first purchase a drink and scan the app at the checkout before being able to receive the points.
The points can be spent in any participating Costa Coffee store, bar, or drive-thru across England, Scotland, and Wales.
There are more than 9,000 Costa Express coffee bars in the UK, according to the company.
Costa Coffee has many hot drinks to choose from, including a hot chocolate, a classic Cappuccino, or the coffee chain’s signature Flat White.
As for food, Costa Coffee has both sweet and savoury treats, including a Salted Caramel Brownie, a Millionaire Shortbread, and a Vegan Smoky Ham & Cheeze Toastie.
This toastie features Quorn ham and costs only £2.95, therefore customers would be able to get it for free using their points.
The coffee chain also has plenty of breakfast options, including a smoked bacon bap, a pork sausage bap, and a breakfast wrap.
Speaking about the new deal, a Costa Coffee Express spokesperson said: “It’s our birthday and we want to kick off the celebrations with our customers, so what better way than to offer a free drink on the house!
“As lockdown restrictions begin to lift, it’s perfect timing to catch-up with friends outside over coffee,” they added.
“Our Costa Express machines serve the same fresh signature Mocha Italia coffee beans and fresh semi-skimmed milk you would expect in our Costa Coffee stores, so the quality of your experience is never compromised.”
The spokesperson continued: “We have also worked hard to revolutionise the self-serve experience, not only offering great tasting coffee but offering customers the contactless option to order their favourite hot drink through the Costa app, meaning there is no need to touch any of our screens.”
