Breakfast, lunch, and dinner – a lot of meals need milk. Even the humble cuppa normally requires a splash. During the lockdown, it might be tricky to keep your milk stash up to scratch. Milk normally only keeps for around a week in the fridge. But the new rules state that Brits should go to the supermarket as little as possible. Freezing your milk may be the way around this- buy in bulk and defrost when you need more. But how long does milk last in the freezer?
Milk can be stored in the freezer for around three to six months, as long as it was in date when you froze it.
However, it is best to drink it within one month of freezing.
It is worth noting that if you leave it any longer, the milk may turn yellow.
The liquid may also start to absorb other odours from the freezer and have an unpleasant taste when you come to drink it.

How do you freeze milk?
Milk expands when frozen, so you should use up a fair bit of the carton before you freeze it.
Try to use a full glass of milk otherwise, the carton will split open in the freezer and create a huge mess.
Make sure the carton isn’t cramped in the freezer, either.
How do you defrost milk?
Do not allow milk to defrost at room temperature.
The longer milk sits at room temperature, the more likely it is that harmful bacteria will congregate in your milk.
Pop it in your fridge for a day, maybe two, and that should do the trick.
If you need the milk as soon as possible, try leaving the carton in a sink of cold water.
This should thaw it in a few hours.
If you are planning to cook with the milk, you could defrost it in the pot or pan as you are cooking.

Defrosted milk is safe to drink, but may be unappealing.
Before each use, give the carton a generous shake.
The process can change the texture from smooth to chunky and watery.
Instead of drinking it, defrosted milk works well in a soup or a smoothie as it creates a creamy texture.
If you love porridge, milk that has been frozen and thawed can thicken it up.

Goats milk generally freezes well, but it might start to separate.
