McDonald’s forced to remove Chicken Big Mac from menu – days after launch

McDonald’s excited fans earlier this year when they announced a Chicken Big Mac would be added to their menu. However, just a week after it was launched, the new addtion has been removed.

The Big Mac is one of McDonald’s most popular items.

In homage to the classic, the fast food company creataed the Chicken Big Mac, and for six weeks only, it would be available for UK customers.

The limited edition burger was only launched last week on February 2.

But after an incredible demand, the chicken version has been taken off the menu.

The official McDonald’s UK Twitter account revealed the news.

The tweet said: “Well, that escalated quickly.

“Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and it’s sold out almost everywhere.

“Thank you for lovin’ it even more than we thought you would, it’ll be back soon.”

Unhappy customers took to social media to comment on the news.

Elle Turpitt wrote: “Nooooo I haven’t had a chance yet!”

McDonald’s replied, promising it would return: “Don’t worry, it’ll be back soon! Stay tuned and we’ll be the first to let you know.”

India Hay said: “This has broken my heart.”

Sarah added: “Back soon? Are u serious, just make it permanent!!!! It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten at McDonald’s! “

But not everyone who had tried the Chicken Big Mac enjoyed it as much.

Pearl Flan said: ”Had one last Friday. Pretty meh, the big mac sauce doesn’t go with chicken.”

Jo Jo added: “So true, would be nice with mayo, can’t taste the chicken for the Big Mac sauce.”

Mark Padden wondered: “Tried it, meh. I did wonder why it didn’t come with onions tho? Thought it was meant to be all normal big mac ingredients but with chicken burgers?”

Minnie Eden wrote: “So glad I managed to try it yesterday now…My only complaint is that it needs cheese on each bit of chicken b/c the cheese makes it so much better, mine fell apart half way through because it was sliding all over the place so I ate the cheeseless bit of chicken separately and it was bland compared to the part with cheese so please add more cheese if it comes back.”

The new Chicken Big Mac is very similar to the regular Big Mac with the special sauce, but it has chicken patties instead of beef burgers.

It costs £4.09 for just the sandwich, or £5.59 for a medium meal with chips and a drink – you can go large for £5.99.

A spokesperson from McDonald’s UK&I, said: “We have been delighted by our customers’ reaction to the limited-edition Chicken Big Mac.

“The demand has been incredible and we simply cannot keep up.

“As such we’ve made the decision to pause the promotion, let our restaurant teams and suppliers restock and get ready for its return in a few weeks.

“We’ll keep customers informed about its return through the usual channels.

“Thank you to everyone who has made this our most popular launch ever.

“We can’t wait to bring it back for even more customers to enjoy.”
