McDonald’s is an American fast-food company founded in 1940 which reportedly feeds 69million people daily.
Siblings Richard and Maurice McDonald opened the first McDonald’s in 1940 in San Bernardino, California.
The fast-food chain is now considered the largest and most successful fast-food restaurant in the world.
Channel 5 show McDonald’s: How Do They Really Do It? revealed one of the mistakes the restaurant made when it first opened.
The first-ever McDonald’s wanted to target drivers so Richard and Maurice opened the first restaurant on route 66 in San Bernardino, California.
“People were in love with their cars, they didn’t want to get out of their cars,” an expert explained during the documentary.
Food expert Andrew Smith revealed McDonald’s first hired “very attractive women in interesting clothing.”
“They would come up to your car, take your order.
“And when the food was ready would bring the food out, put it on a tray and you would eat it in your car.”
However, they soon realised the service was too slow.
“Girls in short skirts and rollerskates would come and serve you at the window of your car.
“But the bothers realised quickly that wasn’t very efficient,” the expert explained.
So they decided to do things differently.
The brothers aimed to get the burgers out in 20 seconds.
But how did they achieve that?
“To differentiate themselves from other competitors they realised they had to pare down their menu and be more efficient.
“Which meant getting rid of the carhops and having you walk up to the window and place the order and get the food very quickly.”
Channel 5 show McDonald’s: How Do They Really Do It? also had internet food critics review one of the chain’s best-sellers: BigMac.
“The Mac sauce is what does it for me,” one of the food bloggers admitted.
The BigMac’s “special sauce” was a hit since it was introduced in 1974.
In America, 17 BigMacs are reportedly sold every second.
