Weight loss can be an uphill battle as there are so many diets on the market to follow and many do not know where to start. It is a well-known fact that in order to lose weight, you must be in a calorie deficit, however following the ketogenic diet can help aid the weight loss process.
Research commissioned by SlimFast, shows that over half of the nation put healthy eating on the back burner during the first national lockdown.
However during this period, the keto diet became the most searched for diet term on Google, and it quickly came the nation’s go-to-lifestyle for tackling any lockdown weight gains.
The research also discovered that many people fear that the keto diet is difficult to stick to as well as having concerns about the lack of food.
The diet involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat.
This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead.
The ketosis state also makes your body very efficient when it comes to burning fat.
A well balanced ketogenic diet has potent anti-inflammatory effects throughout the body, including for belly fat, and thus enables a person to lose it.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Nutritionist Rob Hudson explained that it is possible to follow a keto lifestyle safely, while still getting everything that your body needs.
He said: “It’s a misconception that the keto diet is highly restrictive as there are still many ways to create healthy, balanced and tasty meals using the foods that you are able to eat.
“Try getting creative with dried herbs and spices to create interesting dressings and marinades to make your food taste more interesting.
“Accessing keto-friendly foods on the go has not always been very convenient but the market is growing with brands like SlimFast producing Keto Fuel Bar and Shakes to help people stick to their keto way of life.
“Like any diet, planning is key so make sure you have the right foods on hand to help you create balanced meals and healthy snacks.”
The expert also explained how following the popular plan could help slimmers lose weight more quickly than other diets.
He added: “There are many studies that show how the ketogenic diet can help you to lose weight and improve your health in many other ways.
“Initially people tend to lose more weight and body fat more quickly than a traditional low-fat diet and while this difference in weight loss seems to disappear over time it can still be very motivating when people experience these initial results.
“Many experts would agree that the ketogenic diet is not harmful, and research has shown how it’s safe for significantly overweight or obese people.
“The keto diet is probably best followed short-term to help you achieve your weight loss goals before returning to a normal way of eating. The keto diet is not suitable for people with underlying kidney or liver health issues.”
SlimFast has responded to this growing consumer need for mainstream keto products by launching a new range of keto-friendly bar and shakes.
Rob added: “You should not be feeling hungry between meals on a keto diet as it involves eating mostly fat and protein which are both very filling.
“Including plenty of permitted vegetables at mealtimes is also another good way to help fill you up and keep you feeling full as they have a very high-water content and also contain a source of fibre.
“It’s fine to snack on something healthy if you are hungry between meals and this may be the case if you’re also engaged in lots of exercise alongside your diet.
“There are not a huge amount of convenience snacks on the market that are specifically designed for the keto diet which is why the new SlimFast Keto Fuel Bar and Shakes make great healthy and tasty keto friendly snack options for busy lifestyles.”
Rob explained that keeping a balanced diet is important in the diet which involves eating fruit and veg alongside foods like meat and fish.
Nutritionally balanced for a low-carb keto lifestyle, the SlimFast Keto Fuel Bar and Shakes have been specially formulated to support your body in shifting its energy source from carbohydrates to fats and can be easily incorporated into daily life without compromising on your goal of staying in ketosis.
