Weight loss is difficult to achieve at the best of times, let alone after giving birth to a baby. But when Tina O’Brien put on the pounds while she was pregnant, she quickly got rid of them soon after her child was born. How did she do it?

Tina managed to lose a whopping three stone after giving birth to her first child.

The Coronation Street star had her daughter Scarlett in October 2008.

At the time she was in a relationship with co-star Ryan Thomas.

The pair were together for six years before splitting in 2009.

After realising she had put on weight during her pregnancy, Tina decided to attempt to lose three stone.

She did it by hiring some extra help.

Tina told Closer at the time: “It serves me right because I thought, ‘I’m naturally slim – it will just drop off!’

“But it really didn’t!

“When I first had Scarlett I did absolutely nothing.

“I didn’t want to be running round the block with a week-old baby!”

But the actor soon hired a personal trainer to slim down to her goal weight.

The professional helped her drop down to eight stone.

Regular exercise has been proven to massively contribute to weight loss.

High intensity training, such as running or cycling, is best for burning the most calories.

According to Healthline, a study of 12 men and 12 women compared how many calories running a mile burned than walking.

On average, running a mile on the treadmill burned 33 more calories than walking, while running a mile on the track burned 35 more calories than walking.

One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to create a calorie deficit.

This is when you burn more calories than you consume.

Sports nutritionist Will Girling said to do this, you must change your diet to eat foods that contain fewer calories.

He explained: “If you are trying to drop body fat then you do need to be in a calorie deficit so this does mean that you need to eat less calories – but this doesn’t necessarily mean you need to eat less food, because obviously some foods are lower in calories than others.

“My recommendation for people who do not have an eating disorder or disordered eating would be to track your food, and if you are tracking your food and monitoring your weight, but it’s not going down, then the likelihood is either you’re eating too much or not doing enough activity.”

Tina might have lost weight with a personal trainer in the gym, but Will stressed the importance of doing what you enjoy when it comes to exercise.

He said: “If you look at it purely data driven wise, the exercise that would help you lose weight the most is the one that burns the greatest number of calories per given minute or hour.

“That is most likely running. But what people should do is the one they can do the most consistently, and so what they enjoy doing the most.”
