Weight loss diet: Five easy ways to stay fit at home according to personal trainer

A healthy diet plan and exercise are essential for those hoping to stay fit or lose weight. Following the government advice on coronavirus, many Britons are now working from home and have been asked to avoid busy places. A fitness expert revealed how slimmers can stay in shape without leaving their home.

While some fitness fanatics are not able to get to the gym, it does not mean their health and fitness should be left behind.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, personal trainer from SIX3NINE in Covent Garden Ollie Thompson shared five tips to stay fit at home.

He explained: “During these turbulent times, keeping fit, healthy and active is key.

“Whether you have a full home-gym, or no fitness equipment at all, with a little guidance, everyone can utilise what they have to create a great fitness routine.”

How can you stay fit at home?

Create space

The expert explained: “Creating a space in your home that you can use for exercise is crucial, there’s a lot that you can do with a simple mat or a towel.

“Having a dedicated space will not only remind you to exercise regularly but it will also be a great motivator knowing that the space is ready for use and you don’t need to re-shuffle the furniture!”

Do circuits

Ollie said: “I’m a big fan of circuits and these translate great into the home, simply choose a few great exercises and complete them in a circuit fashion.

“For example, bodyweight squats, push ups, side planks, tricep dips off the side of the bed, jumping jacks, mountain climbers etc.”

Don’t over complicate it

“Keep things simple and stay as consistent as you can,” he added.

“You don’t need to be hanging off the kitchen to create a great home workout. If approached sensibly you can have a great session with just yourself, a towel and a bit of space.”

Enjoy it

Ollie told Express.co.uk: “Approach activity in the way you enjoy it.

“If you’ve never been somebody that enjoys running, don’t force yourself to. Pick yourself up a few resistance bands and incorporate those into a home workout.

“If you find a style of exercise that you enjoy the most and is physically possible with the space and resources that you have, then do it.”

Keep moving

“Something everyone can do, just try and be conscious of moving,” the expert explained.

“Try and get up and walk around at least once every half an hour – set a timer if you need to.

“Go make a cup of tea and do some laps of the house whilst the kettle is boiling, go up and down your stairs a few times, do a household chore – every little helps and it’s really easy to forget this.”
