Weight loss can be extremely difficult to navigate initially, but the challenge is staying focused on the end goal and motivating yourself to keep going. After 10 years struggling, Michael Ageyi overhauled his lifestyle in a bid to drastically change his appearance. He told Express.co.uk how he lost three stone in six months and shared his advice for anyone else looking to do the same.

Speaking about the reasons for wanting to lose weight, Michael said: “I spent the better part of 10 years struggling with what I thought was a weight problem.

“No matter how hard I worked I would lose some weight but before I knew it I would gain it all back again plus more.

“One day after another unsuccessful try at a diet I got so frustrated that I almost threw my scale out of the window.

“After getting through that moment what I learned was nothing on the outside changes unless the inside changes first,” he revealed.

“I was trying to create something new on the outside without creating a new image of myself on the inside.

“So decided to use this time during lockdown to make some serious changes.”

Michael explained what his life was like before losing weight and said: “Before losing the weight, I was not that fit.

“I would have arguments with my wife around food and not be in the greatest of moods at times.”

And before his lifestyle and diet change, Michael “used to eat a lot of African-based, carbohydrate-rich foods in big portion sizes”.

“I will normally eat breakfast, skip lunch and eat a big dinner (sometimes quite late),” he added.

So how did he go about losing weight? “I made a decision that enough was enough,” Michael remarked.

“I was tired of my weight so I decided to get professional help.

“I got myself a Personal Trainer, Tashi (Ray)  who I trained with three times a week as I truly believe that mentorship is the fast track to mastery.

“I also went another two days by myself – so five days a week working out in the gym in total.

“I also walk to the gym [which takes 25 minutes].”

As for his diet, Michael “consulted with a nutritionist to get the right eating habits and then got to work”.

“My wife, Melissa was also very supportive as she helped with my meal prep,” he continued.

As for he workouts Michael did in the gym, he revealed: “My exercises were a mixture of intense weight training, cardio training, and High Intensity Interval Workouts.

“I was in the gym for around 50-60mins each session.”

But in order to achieve the results he wanted, he had to change what he was eating.

Michael shared the foods he began eating: “I had five small meals a day, spreading Himalayan rock salt on my meals [and] I drank around three to four litres of water a day.”

A typical day for Michael consists of: “On waking up I will drink warm water with apple cider vinegar.

“Breakfast includes egg whites and oats with blueberries. Lunch includes chicken breast, rice, with a leafy salad.”

As for dinner, Michael opts for: “Salmon fillet, sweet potato, and a portion of vegetables.”

His last meal is: “Greet yogurt with strawberries and almond butter.

“I also made sure I took my multi-vitamins and minerals daily,” Michael added.

So how does he feel now? “Right now I feel like a brand new man, I am more confident and more excited about life.

“I am really proud of myself and most importantly I have inspired a lot of people.

“I get around 10 messages a day from people on social media telling me that I have inspired them and they would like to work with me to achieve their goals.”

Michael also has some advice for anyone else looking to lose weight: “We use our minds to create an image of ourselves. The image we hold creates our results.

“In other words, the results you are achieving right now are a direct reflection of the image you currently holding in your mind.

“As a success coach, I have proven that if you change your self-image, you change your results.”

Michael’s top tips to lose weight

– Decide: It all starts with a decision

– Target: Have a goal (weight or dress side) start to see yourself already at this goal. This will shape the decisions you make, especially around what you eat and how often you go to the gym and even what you go while at the gym

– Accountability: Have the right support system around you – personal trainer, to make sure you are doing the right thing and on track to getting the right results; family and friends who can hold you to your decision.
