Weight loss is not easy to achieve and there are lots of diet and exercise plans available to help. Looking to others who have slimmed down can also be a good way to get motivation and tips.
Donna Griffiths, from Cardigan Bay, would often opt for takeaways, ordering in around three times a week.
On top of greasy meals, Donna would start her day with six slices of toast and snack regularly on cakes, crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks.
The weight piled on and the mother-of-three soon tipped the scales at around 22 stone.
She said: “I’ve always loved food and still do but for years I made the wrong choices on what to eat and how to cook it.
“I loved takeaways and would easily order two Chinese takeaways a week and an Indian. I’d always go for the creamy and deep-fried option too. A rich korma, fried rice, creamy coconut naans and anything deep fried and battered.”
While Donna enjoyed cooking, her homemade meals were full of cream and butter and she would often bake sweet treats.
After the birth of her third child, she decided enough was enough and wanted to change to feel more comfortable and improve her health.
She continued: “The trigger came for me after I had my third child. I’d lost weight before I had him but then piled it back on. I felt dreadful.
“[I was] uncomfortable in my own body, lacking confidence and unable to really enjoy my children and be active with them. I had to literally drag myself up the stairs using the banister as my knees and ankles were so achy and sore.”
Donna signed up for her local slimming club and started to learn more about healthy eating.
She overhauled her eating plan and used Spicentice spice kits to recreate healthier versions of her favourite takeaway meals.
The slimmer said: “I joined a local slimming group and started to look at what I was eating and how I was cooking it. I had to re-teach myself what I should and shouldn’t be doing and had to completely overhaul my lifestyle.
“The one thing I really missed was my takeaways, then I found Spicentice and realised I could enjoy my favourite treats in a low calorie and healthy way.”
Previously squeezing into a size 22, Donna shed a staggering 12 stone and dropped six dress sizes.
Donna stated: “Now I feel like a different woman. At my heaviest I was wearing size 22 tents. Now I can buy high street clothes and comfortably fit into a size 10.
“I feel confident in myself and I’m active with the children. During the first lockdown we had long walks to the beach, most days hitting around 20,000 steps. We’re still doing that and are also enjoying our home workouts.”
The dieter explained she had become more active as well as changing her diet plan.
Not only did she slim down and improve her health, Donna explained her confidence increased.
“More than anything I’m excited for what the future holds,” she added.
“I’d love to open my own café serving the healthy meals and treats I’ve taught myself to cook to show there is a way you can enjoy the food you love in a better way.”
