With so many weight loss programmes and diets out there, it can be difficult to find the one that works for you. But, Lucy Evans, 31, from Leeds turned to WW after getting a job there to help her reach her goal – which she hit in May this year. At five foot six inches, Lucy’s starting weight was 15st 8lb but since following the plan, she has shed nearly six stone.
Lucy explained how she started to gain weight in highs cool.
Then, when she moved to university, bad habits meant her weight crept up.
“I’d come to a place where I’d absolutely convinced myself I was just born to be a bigger person,” Lucy said. “I wasn’t born to be slim.
“And, I can distinctly remember telling friends time and time again ‘there is no way I’d ever be a size 10, my bone structure isn’t small enough’.
“This was even affirmed by some friends around me who, very innocently, used to say to me ‘don’t lose too much weight, you weren’t born to be small,’” she recalled.
In 2019, Lucy went through a couple of major life changes which meant she needed to find a new job – and she got an interview with WW.
“During my onboarding to WW, I attended loads of WW Workshops across the UK to really understand the brand, who we are and the impact we have on members,” Lucy said.
“On the Monday Morning of Week three at WW, I picked a fairly local workshop at Shipley Library in West Yorkshire.
“Picking that particular workshop on that day changed my life.
“It’d been a great workshop, as they always were, member sharing their successes and their challenges and learning great new techniques to support with Weight loss and Wellness,” she continued.
“At the end I was going to make a swift exit to get to my next appointment when an older lady approached me.
“She asked what’d brought me here and I explained that I’d just started working for WW etc… she then warmly asked ‘And, how long have you been a member?’
“In that moment I froze and I didn’t know what to say.
“I couldn’t tell her I wasn’t a member and never had been … and before I knew the words ‘Today is my first day as a member’ had left my mouth and that was it,” Lucy recalls.
Lucy became a digital member and in May 2021 she reached her goal weight.
She says she feels like a new person; she can now run up the stairs, has a lot more energy, and she has lost her sweet tooth.
“I cook everything from scratch, which has really helped me to be successful as I know all the ingredients going into my meals,” Lucy added.
“I make food swaps for zero point foods, such as I have butterbean mash instead of mashed potato, or I opt for roast parsnips instead of roast potatoes or Butternut Squash chips instead of oven chips.
“I don’t deny myself anything, and my partner and I have a roast every Sunday – plus I allow myself a drink.”
Lucy has gone from a size 16/18 to a size 8/10.
