Taking the first step when losing weight is usually the hardest, then comes the challenge of sticking to a healthy diet and workout plan in order to see the results. One lady turned her life around and lost half her body weight. Dora Mancini originally weight 18 stone and was a size 22. Now, she weights half that – nine stone – and is a size six to eight. She told Express.co.uk exactly how she turned her life around.

Before the weight loss, Dora said there were many things she was not able to do.

She said: “I was allergic to a lot of foods, I was also allergic to my own sweat and I was asthmatic.

“I had no confidence in my body and constantly wore black or grey clothes.

“Now my allergies have disappeared which is amazing and now I probably use my inhaler once every few months.”

As for why she wanted to change her life, Dora added: “I never wanted to lose weight, I started the gym to support my husband who wanted to see if the gym would help with his anxiety (which it did) and I went along for support and ended up loving it.”

“But once you find your feet it is easy. But it’s finding what works for you.. so be patient, be positive and you can do it.

“If I can, anyone can,” she remarked.

“Finding alternatives like Lo-Dough really got me through as I was able to have pizzas, toasties ect or if I wanted something sweet like chocolate, I would eat the miracle bars (which are absolutely incredible – the caramel is my favourite).

“Finding these alternatives are key I think and make the world of a difference,” she added.

In terms of what exercises Dora did, or the diet she ate, she explained: “I was working out in the gym and managed to pull both my biceps, so after recovering I approached a PT in the gym who fixed my form instantly.

“He then offered me some teaser PT sessions which I really enjoyed.

“So I continued with him and have been with him since.

“I was in calorie deficit and did a mixture of weight and cardio,” Dora revealed.

When the first lockdown hit, Dora did everything she could to exercise regularly.

She said: “My PT helped my husband and I get some equipment so we could continue our journey at home.

“We were [also] doing online coaching with our PT.”

As for what surprised her when losing weight, Dora said: “I surprised myself with how quickly I could adapt and change my diet.

“I also loved the fact that i didn’t have to give you my favourite food (pizza) as there is alternatives like Lo-Dough that gave me the ability to have my favourite foods at a fraction of the calories.

“I was also amazed at the fact my allergies disappeared and my eczema is very little now. [I] still can’t get over it.”

And did she struggle with anything? “I would say staying motivated and not giving in,” Dora replied.

“But I went on my journey with my husband who encouraged and helped me when I was struggling which made the world of a difference.”

In terms of how weight loss has change Dora’s life, she commented: “My life is 100x better than what it was I am happy, I am confident, I have more energy.

“I can wear clothes and colours that I would never dreamt of.

“My sleep is 100x better, my outlook on life as a whole is just amazing.

“I am now a PT myself and am changing careers to help others achieve their goals that’s how much i love it.”

Dora also shared some advice for anyone else looking to lose weight or get fitter.

“I would say to people trying to lose weight that it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon,” She said.

“Don’t expect the change over night it takes time…get a gym buddy to the gym with.

“You [also] have to be mentally ready for it as it’s a lifestyle change completely.
