Mark Labbett rose to fame as one of the top quizzers on ITV’s The Chase, but more recently it hasn’t just been his genius that’s stunned viewers. His dramatic weight loss transformation has been a hit among fans who all went to know how he managed to do it.

So what did Mark change about his lifestyle in order to achieve his incredible figure in just six months?

The 56-year-old has lost an incredible four inches off his chest, six inches off his belly and a whopping 10st overall.

And he did it by completely overhauling his diet and exercise routine.

When he made his first TV debut back in 2003, he weighed a whopping 29 stone at his heaviest.

Now, he’s now the “smallest” he’s been in the last 30 years, having shed 63kg.

He told ITV’s Loose Women last year that he dropped a few clothes sizes by eating a protein-rich diet and ditching carbohydrates and sugar and cut back on alcohol.

He explained: “I’m on a high protein diet, so eating an awful lot of meat and lean meat.

“As much as I love chips and other carbs, I’m having quite a bit less than I used to.

“And it’s sort of became a virtuous cycle,” he added. “I’m not feeling that hungry, so you eat less, so you lose weight, so you’re not as hungry.”

Protein is considered by health experts the single most important nutrient for weight loss.

According to experts at Healthline: “Protein may be particularly effective in reducing abdominal fat.”

It can also prevent people from regaining weight if they keep it in their diets.

If a person has a high-protein intake, it will boost their metabolism, reduce their appetite and help change several weight-regulating hormones inside their bodies that will all help to drop the pounds.

Foods that are high in protein and can often be found on weight loss diet plans include:

Lean meats – beef, lamb, veal, pork

Poultry – chicken, turkey, duck, goose

Fish and seafood – fish, prawns, crab, lobster, mussels, oysters, scallops, clams


Dairy products – milk, yoghurt, cheese, cottage cheese.

He conked to tell the Loose Women panel that he lost weight “gradually”, and noticed his success when he went clothes shopping.

“I dropped Xs off my size, from 5XL to 4XL, and it looks like the next time I go shopping I’ll be able to squeeze into XL pants,” he beamed.

“Small things but important things.

“I’ve lost 10 stone, I was 29 stone when I was a full-time teacher in 2003 and I was in danger of high blood pressure.

“I’ve been around 26 stone up until lockdown, and then a few things happened quite nicely and came together and I started losing weight.”
