As the cost-of-living crisis bites, this works out at just £3.33 a head for a turkey with all the trimmings that make a traditional festive feast.

The price-busting deal is being offered by Sainsbury’s for Nectar card holders from Tuesday until Christmas Eve.

It includes a standard small turkey, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, parsnips, gravy granules for meat, sage and onion stuffing, pigs in blankets and a fruit sherry trifle.

A vegetarian option is available for £17 which also feeds six. The turkey is replaced with a Plant Pioneers Meat Free Wellington, with vegetable gravy granules and Plant Pioneers Pups in Blankets replacing the meat versions.

The festive offer is being launched after the supermarket giant’s research revealed 44 per cent of people were intending to give Christmas dinner a miss this year due to costs. Those polled feared it would set them back an average of £84 to feed six people on the big day.

As a result 36 per cent admitted to pro-actively avoiding hosting people; 26 per cent said they had come up with extravagant excuses, with 22 per cent saying their oven was broken and 19 per cent not having enough chairs. And 17 per cent said they had even left family WhatsApp groups to avoid discussions about hosting Christmas dinner.

Celebrity Masterchef contestant Tom Skinner, who also appeared on The Apprentice, is a fan of Sainsbury’s deal.

Our festive roast has everything needed to serve up a delicious meal for loved ones.”
