Gordon Ramsay’s ‘delicious’ autumn apple crumble can be baked in 30 minutes

Gordon Ramsay bakes apple crumble

Now that the leaves have changed and the weather is getting chillier, there is no better time to start embracing some cosy autumn food.

It’s the time of year when home chefs are spending their evenings cooking delicious, hearty meals, such as this apple cider chicken stew, or this pumpkin alla vodka pasta. Apple crumble is a beloved dessert due to its tender yet slightly tart apples baked with a buttery and crumbling topping.

Gordon Ramsay has said that his apple crumble recipe is perfect for autumn as it will “get you in the mood for those cosy nights in” but is also fantastic at using up autumn fruits which are in season right now.

In a video online, Gordon said: “My next recipe is a proper Britsh classic, that is super simple to cook, and costs next to nothing [to bake], a delicious apple crumble.

“Crumbles are the perfect way to use fruit when it’s in season, there’s lots of it about, it’s nice and cheap, but most importantly the fruit is at its absolute best.”

Instructions

To begin, preheat the oven to 200°C/Gas 6. Take your stove-proof baking dish, add the caster sugar to it and heat it on the stove for five minutes until it caramelises.

Next, add the cinnamon, vanilla seeds and three grated apples to the dish and bake for around two minutes.

Slowly stir in the apple chunks next, and then add the cranberries, lemon zest and lemon juice. Then remove the baking dish from the heat and set aside for now.

In order to make the crumble topping, add flour, sugar, butter and cinnamon to a mixing bowl and rub together with your fingertips until the mixture is crumbly and resembles breadcrumbs. Next, add your nutty granola or muesli to the mixture and keep rubbing together until fully mixed.

Then, take your baking dish with the apple filling and add the crumble on top of the fruit. Hear once again on the stove until the mixture is bubbling.

Now place in the oven and bake for around 12 to 14 minutes until baked to a deep golden colour.

Once ready, remove it from the oven and your warm apple crumble is ready to serve.
