An American woman who went to the UK on holiday has shocked Brits after describing their food as “unseasoned trash.”
Charlie is a 24-year-old woman from New Jersey who has recently gone viral on social media for her passionate review of British food, in which she went into detail about why she hated the cuisine so much while on holiday.
In a video posted to TikTok, Charlie said: “I went to the UK. I had a variety of food while I was there. I was shown around by natives. So for all you Brits out there, I did go to Wetherspoons. I did go to Toby’s. I did have a ‘proper Chinese’, all terrible.”
Charlie then went on to describe her experience at Wetherspoons, in which she described the food as being “nothing special” and explained to her American audience that the chain restaurant was the British equivalent to a Chili’s or an Applebee’s.
She also went to Toby Carvery and argued that America has better restaurants, saying that an American roast dinner is “better than probably anything that they could ever imagine.”
Charlie then described Nando’s as “a mild version of Chipotle.” She added: “It’s not that special. We have one in Miami. Next time you’re in Florida, just like go visit it. It’s really nothing great.”
However, Charlie said that her experience at chain restaurants was the only thing she could eat “consistently” while staying in the UK, as she described every other food was a “f***ing gamble.”
Charlie said: “Y’all do not do seasoning. I don’t give a f***, y’all don’t use them.”
In her review of British takeaways, Charlie admitted she never tried an Indian while on holiday. She said: “I won’t completely knock the UK because as far as I know, the Indian food in the UK is hitting.”
However, in her review of a British Chinese takeaway, Charlie described the meal as a “suicide.” She said: “There’s no other word, it’s not good” while making vomiting sounds.
Charlie said: “Not even the worst Chinese food in America could compare to the awfulness. It’s really as bad as you think.”

Charlie’s opinion of British cuisine immediately went viral with over a million views, with some Americans agreeing with her view.
One user said: “[British food] always looks cold lol. The only food that looks good is when they make homemade Sunday roast dinners.”
Another American commented: “Louisiana boy, here. I’d rather [die]. Our WORST food probably tastes delicious by comparison.”
However, other Americans disagreed. One woman wrote: “It’s not British. but the food I had in Scotland was PHENOMENAL. The best venison steak and duck I’ve ever had. And I LOVE Haggis. Just go north.”
Another American added: “I was in England recently and we had some amazing British food. Pie and mash, bangers and mash, fish and chips.”
One British commentator said: “I was about to be offended but then you said you went to Wetherspoons and Toby’s” to which Charlie replied: “I went to many local places, also bad lol.”
