Chef’s ‘refreshing’ frozen bananas are easy to make with just 3 ingredients

Bananas are one of the most affordable fruits and there are so many ways to enjoy them as part of a healthy diet.

While they’re often used as a staple breakfast ingredient, sprinkled over porridge and granola, the soft fruit can also be served as a dessert in its own right.

When covered with sweet toppings like caramel and chocolate, bananas are even more enjoyable and incredibly easy to prepare.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, plant-based chef and nutrition coach Lisa Marley revealed her simple recipe for frozen bananas.

Packed with essential nutrients and antioxidants, the chocolate and fruit combination makes for the perfect health-conscious snack.

Unlike most frozen banana recipes, Lisa’s method involves chopping up the fruit and threading it through a skewer to make them easier to eat.

To make them, start by peeling the bananas and cutting them into thick slices. Take one skewer and thread three chunks of fruit onto it, leaving even spaces between each one.

Repeat this process with all the banana slices and skewers before preparing a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. According to Lisa, this is essential to prevent the banana skewers from sticking to the tray.

Once the tray is ready, make a start on the chocolate coating by chopping it up into chunks. Empty it into a microwave-safe bowl and melt in a microwave-safe bowl at 30-second intervals, stirring after each one.

Repeat until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Dip each banana skewer into the melted dark chocolate, coating it completely. Use a spoon or a spatula to help spread the chocolate evenly.

Immediately sprinkle the coated banana skewers with flaked almonds, or other toppings, ensuring that the almonds stick to the chocolate. Lisa noted that it may help to gently press the almonds onto the chocolate if needed.

Place the coated banana skewers on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are not touching each other to allow them to freeze individually. Once all the banana skewers are coated and covered in flaked almonds, transfer the baking sheet to the freezer for at least two hours.

Once frozen, remove the banana skewers from the freezer and transfer them to a resealable plastic bag or an airtight container for storage. Let the banana skewers freeze for at least two hours or until they are completely solid.

Lisa said: “Serve the frozen banana skewers straight from the freezer as a refreshing and delicious treat!”
