Make ‘gooey and delicious’ cinnamon rolls in 30 minutes with 4 ingredients

Cinnamon rolls can be enjoyed at any time of the day but no matter when they’re eaten, they’re always best served straight from the oven.

That’s why baking them from scratch is the best for perfectly sweet and doughy bakes every time.

One food blogger has shared the ultimate recipe for beginners on her blog “Chocolate Covered Katie”, which she claims requires just four ingredients.

Katie said: “These magical cinnamon rolls take under an hour to make, from start to finish.

“They turn out just as soft, gooey, and delicious as classic homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch, without all the work! If you love cinnamon rolls but not the time and effort it usually takes to bake them, this is the recipe for you.”

According to the food blogger, the secret to the four-ingredient formula is to use pizza dough.

Katie claimed that this recipe works with whole wheat pizza dough and gluten free, so there’s plenty of options to suit every palette.

Makes 9-13 rolls:

  • 16oz pizza dough
  • Two tablespoons of butter, coconut oil or apple sauce (for a low-fat alternative)
  • Three tablespoons of sugar
  • Two or three teaspoons of ground cinnamon

Start by preheating the oven to 200C then move onto making the rolls. To do this, roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface.

This could be with any flour, even coconut varieties, according to Katie. She suggested adding more flour a little at a time if the dough is too sticky to roll out. Continue to toll it until it is just less than one quarter of an inch thick.

In a bowl, combine the butter, sugar and cinnamon to form a paste and then spread over the dough in one even layer.

Cut into long strips then roll each one up as tightly as possible to form the swirl pattern.

Place the rolls in a greased baking pan and transfer to the preheated oven (200C). Bake for 20 minutes until firm but still gooey.

Serve plain or top with a basic cinnamon roll glaze made from:

  • One and half cups of icing sugar
  • Two to four tablespoons of milk

Whisk the ingredients together until the glaze is thick but loose enough to drizzle over the rolls with a spoon.
